Put a screenshot in a phone frame without opening a design tool
A raw phone screenshot is a bare rectangle. Dropped into a landing page, a pitch deck or a changelog post it reads as evidence rather than as a product — there is nothing to tell the viewer they are looking at a phone. Wrapping it in a device frame fixes that in one step, and it is the reason App Store listings, press kits and app review sites almost all use framed screenshots rather than bare ones.
The tedious part has always been picking the right frame. Screenshot dimensions are unforgiving: an iPhone 17 Pro capture is 1206 × 2622, an iPhone 16 is 1179 × 2556, a Pixel 10 Pro is 1280 × 2856. Drop a 1206 × 2622 image into a frame built for a 1179 × 2556 screen and it is stretched by two per cent — small enough that nobody can name what is wrong, large enough that iOS system text looks subtly off. This tool sidesteps the problem by reading the dimensions and choosing the frame for you.
How resolution detection works
Every phone writes screenshots at exactly one pixel size, set by its panel and its render scale. That makes the dimensions a fingerprint. When you drop a file, the tool reads its width and height and checks them against a table of around 55 devices, in this order:
- Exact match. 1206 × 2622 is an iPhone 17 Pro, 17 or 16 Pro.
- Rotated. 2622 × 1206 is the same phone held sideways, so the frame turns with it.
- Halved or thirded. Simulator exports at 1× and images that have been through a chat app often arrive at half or a third of native size. Those are matched back to the real device and framed at full resolution.
- Closest aspect ratio. If nothing matches, the phone with the nearest proportions is used and the tool says it scaled rather than matched, instead of silently pretending it knew.
Plenty of sizes are shared. Seven iPhone models capture at 1170 × 2532; four capture at 1179 × 2556. In most of those groups the frames are geometrically identical — same corner radius, same cutout, same bezel — so any pick renders the same image. Where they genuinely differ, such as the wide notch on an iPhone 12 versus the narrow one on a 13, the tool tells you the size is shared and puts every candidate at the top of the picker.
Why the frames are drawn, not photographed
Each frame is vector geometry rendered on a canvas, not a PNG bezel image. That means no megabytes of device artwork to download, and a 2× export is exactly as sharp as a 1× one. It also allows the corners to be right: iOS screen corners are continuous curves rather than circular arcs, and the rail, bezel and glass radii are derived from one another so the bands stay a constant width around the corner instead of pinching — the usual giveaway on a hand-drawn device frame.
Exporting for the App Store and Google Play
Both stores are picky about dimensions, and Apple's requirements changed recently. As of 2026 App Store Connect no longer has a 6.7-inch class at all: the old 1290 × 2796 size now uploads into the 6.9-inch slot, and every smaller iPhone class is auto-scaled from 6.9-inch. In practice that means a single set of 1320 × 2868 screenshots covers an entire iPhone listing, which is what the App Store preset exports.
Google Play publishes constraints rather than a fixed size: 320 px minimum per edge, 3840 px maximum, and the long edge no more than twice the short one, with 1080 px the bar for Play's promotional surfaces. The Play Store preset exports 1080 × 1920, comfortably inside all of them. Neither store accepts transparency, so selecting a store preset swaps a transparent background for white rather than letting you upload a file that would be rejected.
Framing a desktop screenshot instead
